Google initiated its exploration of gallery ads in search earlier this year and has experimented with various image-focused ad formats previously. The company has announced that gallery ads are expected to become widely available later this year, marking a significant increase in their prominence.

The gradual inclusion of more visuals in Google’s mobile search results has been evident over the years. For instance, searching for a movie might now display images of its posters and leading actors, alongside photos featured in prominent articles about the film, in addition to a wealth of other information such as showtimes, reviews, and video clips.
