Elon Musk Provides Update on Neuralink’s First Human Patient and Goals for Mind-Controlled Technology. Elon Musk has recently provided an update on Neuralink’s inaugural patient. During a brief interview with Fab TV, Musk expressed his optimism regarding the progress of Neuralink’s first participant in its human trials. He mentioned, “We anticipate receiving results from our first patient later this week. Everything appears promising thus far. I’m hopeful that by the end of this week, we can announce the ability of the first Neuralink patient to control both a phone and a computer.”
Elon Musk announced via a post on X on January 30, 2024, that the first patient of Neuralink had successfully undergone the implant procedure and was recovering well, though he refrained from providing further details about the individual. Last year, Neuralink began its search for participants for its inaugural human clinical trials, targeting specifically those who are quadriplegic due to cervical spinal cord injury or have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The expectation is that recipients of Neuralink implants will be able to operate computers and phones through thought alone. Reflecting its potential, the first offering from Neuralink has been fittingly named Telepathy.
In a demonstration of Telepathy’s potential, Neuralink, in 2021, released footage of Pager, a nine-year-old Macaque monkey, playing the game Pong using only his mind.
Musk elaborated on the technology’s promise in a post on X, stating, “It allows for the control of your phone or computer, and by extension virtually any device, simply through thought. The initial beneficiaries will be individuals who have lost mobility in their limbs. Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate more rapidly than someone capable of fast typing or an auctioneer. That’s the vision we’re working towards.”
BREAKING: The first Neuralink patient is doing well, and Elon Musk is hopeful to have results by later this week.
